September 2010

One of my buddy has been suffering insomnia for many nights – let’s call him Entutson.

So, one day, Entutson came out lunch with me, and he said,

“Bing, I want to have a few shots of whiskey after lunch. I’m going to hit the bed after those shots. I need more sleep.”

“What the fuck, it’s only noon woh!”

“You suk ar? Loi gi mahh, diao…”

“Bring it on. I haven’t tried drinking so early… the rest of the night will be miserable.” I told him.

After we had our lunch at Pepper’s Jack Pizza Grill, we went to Upperstar Restaurant to get drunk :D

None of us tried getting drunk at noon. This is getting fun.

“If you miss this chance, you probably never have this chance again.. you want to wait until you become a father, then bring your child out to drink meh?”

This is how I encourage them to join us… hahahaha.

“So, what shall we drink today?” one of them asked.

“Let’s drink all the beer they offer in their menu, from LEFT to RIGHT” I replied. (highlighted in photo)

“Then, reverse from RIGHT to LEFT!!” I added.

Everyone applauded at my suggestion.. :D oh lin laaa this time.

This is what we had:

  1. Heineken
  2. TsingTao
  3. Corona
  4. Beck’s
  5. Tuborg
  6. San Mig Light
  7. Anchor
  8. Don’t remember
  9. Don’t remember

Since we just had our lunch—we had to go slow.

But the beer finishes faster than we thought..

We were in lala-land in an hour time.

While drinking, I developed a new photo taking skill. My LX3 became a ‘fake’ dSLR. All my photo got huge lens, like I’m holding a dSLR.

I sent a MMS to my friend, told him I am shooting photo my new camera, hoping to fool him. Then I was scolded “you think I am stupid harr??”

HAhahahaha.

This is what drunk people do *shy*

Happy Times :D

“Yammmm sengggggggg” we cheered.

Customers around our tables are 80% family. We are giving a bad example to the kids.

“Next time don’t learn those koko ahh.. so early drink beer. Later you become stupid like them” are probably warnings the parents gave their children, using us as bad examples.

Don’t care that much la, if don’t chee sin now, wait until when?

We said we only wanted to drink for an hour… end up drinking until 5pm.

And… we went for another round after dinner.

You believe or not?

My friend, Jonathan Hiew, recently opened a new restaurant at Lintas Plaza, Kota Kinabalu. Pepper Jack’s the name. Why this name? I have absolutely no idea. I asked him this question but he replied me with non-sense.. -__-”

Jonathan requested me to do honest food review for his restaurant.

“I am going to write honestly at my blog de ohh.. you sure don’t regret ah? if it taste like shit, I’ll write shit.”

“I have confident on my food. I spent last 5 years perfecting these recipes.” he replied confidently.

“By the way, I never tried shit.. so I don’t know how shit taste like” I added, to avoid confusion :P

==========

Pepper Jack’s is still on soft-launch period, which means Jonathan is still improving the food quality based on customer feedbacks and make sure the smoothness operation of the restaurant.

Official launch on October 2010.

Where is Pepper Jack’s?

Lintas Plaza, Kota Kinabalu. Shop is located at ground floor, same row as Pizza Hut and Sarjana Bookstore.

What cuisine does Pepper Jack’s serve?

According to Jonathan, Pepper Jack’s serves fusion food. Western foods with Asian element. Food worth noting includes Tom Yam Pizza, Lamb Stew and Cream Fish Tuna Pizza.

At the time of this writing, Jonathan’s shop is still doing hell lots of offers. He gave me so many coupons I don’t know where to start from -__-

Jonathan gives out some rare coupon occasionally… 50% off from everything, which is damnnnnnnnnnn nice.

Market Fried Fish Fillet—Look at the freaking huge portion!! When the food arrives, my eyes practically looks like O_O The food portion is humongous!

If you were big fan of fish and chips, you definitely have to try this. Fries were awesome too, fried until ngam ngam hou, crunchy crunchy wan.

Fried Chicken Rice with Carbonara Sauce (Cheese Baked)—Another huge serving dish, the fried chicken is so huge that my friend is unable to finish it. Fried chicken, siram with creamy carbonara sauce, then add another layer of mozarella cheese, and bake to perfection.

Shit, my saliva is drooling while I wrote the description. You need to run 30km to burn off all the calories, though.

I wonder what Jonathan is earning from these huge food portion. No need pay rent meh? :D

Pepper Mayo Chicken Rice—This is what I ordered, I am a big fan of mayo, so I wanted to try what’s the best he can offer. I doubt I can finish the dish when the food arrives.

“Ui, you deep fried a whole chicken ahh? Why soooooo big wan!?” I asked him :D

This one is a bit dry though.. maybe no sauce that comes with it. I prefer my mayo in thick and gooey food, but that’s personal preference though.

Cream Fish Tuna—This is the most famous pizza, according to Jonathan. He receives many good feedback from his customers.. and this pizza will hit “big time” soon. I ordered this… and he is absolutely right.

Jonathan created the pizza crust with his own recipe, and added the creamy tuna (lots lots lots of mayonnaise and tuna, so freaking awesome). And again, his is able to bake the mozzarella cheese to perfect colour.

THIS IS A MUST TRYYYYYYYYY.

Grilled Chicken Spaghetti—The grill chicken had once again exceeded my expectation. I thought the chicken will be the typical lousy grill chicken including the chicken skin, but once again, I was wrong. It’s pure meat! And it’s grilled to fully cooked, and yet sealed the juice without losing the tenderness. Add mushroom sauce lagi.. what else can I say?

The carbonara spaghetti is a bit dry, I think is because I took too much time taking the food photo. hahahah. I told him to add more SAUCE to pasta to ensure it won’t be dry when he serves the next customer.

Haiyaya, this Jonathan… if he continue serves his food portion so huge, I really have to worry for him.

Two types of worry – (1) worry he cannot pay rent because all his food portion so big and (2) worry he’ll become millionaire earlier than me.

Jack’s Curry Chicken Rice – I like the presentation of this dish. The huge plate is filled up with food. Even the egg also has no space to “land”, have to land on top of the rice :P

According to Joseph (the friend that ordered this dish), the curry is really good. Up to standard. He has no complain, and he finished the whole dish.

===========

This is a official review and I didn’t write the food in Jonathan’s favour because he was my friend, the food is good and portion is huge, which is always an advantage in KK food scene.

Customers in KK tends to look for food that has “value”, which is either damn delicious, or portion is huge enough to feed themselves for whole week when disaster strikes.

“Remember, don’t shrink your food portion in future. This is your USP (unique selling point)” I told Jonathan. Of course, the food quality must be maintained too. Don’t become like Upperstar—opened up many branches but the food quality is sharply declining.

Upperstar, you suck.

Wohooo!! I am finally 25! Thanks for the Facebook birthday wishes. You’re so awesome.

But hor… I got a secret to tell you…

It’s not my birthday. My real birthday was wayyyyy back at April.

AH BING!! WHY YOU LIDDAT WAN?!

I was testing the Facebook system—I wanted to know if the system allows same account to celebrate birthday twice in a year.. the result is positive—yes it allows same person to have two birthdays in a year, or more.

I even planned my next birthday at November, more reason to party.

Mum: “Ah zai, where are you going out tonight?”

Me: “I am going out to celebrate my Facebook birthday. Facebook allows me to celebrate many times a year”

So, why did I change my birthdate at first place?

I was concern about the privacy data issue. I do not want Facebook to hold too much of my personal information, so I removed my birth date. Few months ago I wrote a blog entry about 13 reasons to quit Facebook, there’s some privacy policy from Facebook that I didn’t feel comfortable (yes I quit Facebook already, and no, it was not successful. Ha!)

So I changed my birthday to exact day with my best buddy, which is 23th September. I share same birthday with my buddy, which is pretty cool :)

And then, what happens on 23rd September 2010?

Oh shit. This is out of control.

I am flattered to received so many birthday wishes. Seriously :) These wishes always made the birthday person feel special on that special day :)

However, how am I going to explain to them? Say sorry to them one-by-one? NO WAY.. hahahahhaha :D

I think the fastest and most efficient way to explain to them is to blog about it. Hence, this blog entry.

If I accidentally received surprise birthday gift.. wah damn syok man!! Can’t imagine what I’ll do to the person who send me gift. Imagine this:

“Ah Bing!! Happy birthday!! this is a little gift that I’ve prepared for you, I spent 12 hours on this gift and I even postponed my final assignment, my best friend was sent to hospital but I stayed home instead and made this for you”

“Oh lin………….x1000000″

What about birthday kiss? that’s even more awesome.

“Bing! here’s your birthday kiss”

/muah

I will tell her: “I have another birthday again on November.. gimme another kiss k?”

But the kisses only limited to ladies la of course. If you are male and you kissed me, I swear I’ll lastic your balls and flying kick you.

Birthday sex?.. Hohohoo this is getting interesting. If you can see my face now, I am smiling with mouth so wide that my lips are reaching my earlobes.. I WANT OHHHHHHH!!! For 25 years, I do not have such experience yet. Hopefully 26th birthday onwards I get this surprise every year *grin*

So, I changed my birthday… for fun. Hope you’re not offended or anything.

If I accidentally poked at your innocent heart with my mischievous act, “yer Ah Bing lied me”, and you’re hurt (or beh song)… I apologize to you :)

Lesson to take away – do not trust the internet too much. That’s all I can say.. heh.

And who got surprise birthday sex for me?

Hui Min invited to me have lunch at Peppermint, a Vietnamese Restaurant at Karamunsing Capitol.

Before meeting up, Hui Min purposely ask me to take photos of the food.. he knows me well. He knew I will take photos of food and blog about it. There’s something I have to let you know, I only blog about the food if the food is acceptable.

You see, I try not to blog about restaurant/food that I dislike — I don’t want to write negative things about a restaurant and indirectly affects their business. I know it’s difficult to run a restaurant, especially struggling ones. If there’s food worth mentioning, it’ll appear on Ahbing.com magically. Heh.. yes. Magically *bling*

If I write bad things about their food, they close business, cannot pay mortgage, then kids cannot go to school. OH LIN loh?! Then I become bad guy already!!  I don’t want gain bad karma, you know :D

If I don’t like the food, I just take photo.. and keep the photos in my blog achieve la (yes I still upload the photo, just in case the boss *lin si me or what, I write until they tutup kedai). Or else, it’ll remain in achieve.

Eh, salah topic.. I suppose to write about Peppermint, the Vietnamese Restaurant. Here goes.

Spicy Chicken Rice—Hui Min and me ordered the same dish. I believe this is the 招牌菜 that attracts most of the customers. You can smell the aroma when you walk pass the shop, almost like KFC, but different smell.

I ordered the chicken thigh, which comes in larger portion (RM7). Hui Min ordered the normal size (RM5.50), and he was disappointed.

“Ishh… why yours so huge oh? My chicken is mostly tulang!” Hui Min said.

“Sorry la, I am not sharing mine with you.. HEHEHEH” I replied.

The other specialties offered by Peppermint Restaurant includes Crispy Spring Roll and Beef Noodle Soup, also known as Phó. I beliebe Phó is noodle in Vietnamese.. but take my words for granted. I don’t know anything about Vietnamese language. I’m just taking a wild guess.

“Hello egg-cuse me, macam mana mau baca ini ah? foh? fo? poh?”

I didn’t ask that question.. didn’t bother la. Normally I just point to the menu and say “Saya mau nombor 15″—Quick and efficient. Confirm No mis-communication.

“Hello, I want *foh“.. that doesn’t sound right.

Wanted to try the Stuff Chicken Wings, but never had the chance. Always think about “aiyayaya… have to do extra 30 minutes workout.. I don’t want” ^^;

YES I DO LOOK AFTER MY WEIGH YOU BASTARD.

I am health conscious wan ok… but not when I’m drunk.

Photo taken at 12:15 noon, when the crowds are swarming in. By 1pm, there are customers standing outside waiting for seats.

Damn, I also want to own a restaurant like this—fry chicken and sell. This reminds me of my Final Fantasy Wing.

foh – girlfriend in Hakka. Sometimes also call foh si, or foh zai. A bit rude.

lin si – cocky, or sometimes refer as liang zai because they all call me lin si. Depends.

If you happen to wake up at 5am and wonder what to do, I recommend you to have a stroll at Lido Morning Market. I know it’s very unlikely to wake up at 5am and you feel BORED.. but it happens.

That’s what happened to me.

That morning I woke up 5am, and I decided to Lido market to have a walk. I departed at 6am.

Yes, I purposely went there to have a walk. I am learning to appreciate every little thing that life offers us. You’ll see many wonderful things from that perspective. Trust me :)

You won’t appreciate something you own, until someday when you lost it, it’s too late to regret.

Oh sorry, ter-off topic :P Back to my market experience… haha. And so, I brought along my camera, thought of sharing the morning “moments” for you who always wake up after 10am (or some of you might straight away goes to work after waking up).

I think I am the youngest fella in the market… walking around with a camera. Heh. Memang tai lin ngong*.

At first, you’ll get some weird glance from those vendors, probably they are thinking “nia zak liang zai heh tai lin ngong… an zao loi yang siong” (in Hakka—this big dick dude must be crazy to come take photo so early in morning).

That feels uncomfortable at first (I am referring to the glance, not about having a big dick).

It’s fun to approach strangers and start a conversation.

“Auntie, I help you take photo a… and free exposure for you. Wahh auntie, you look very liang moi in the photo oooo!” Show her camera’s LCD screen 0.5 secs. Smile. Then bid good bye.

This vendor’s stall is like a mini supermarket. You can pretty get anything you want.

“Auntie ahh… you got sell car wash detergent and toothbrush or not?”

“Got ahh”

Wasaigenalauweh, why you so geng wan!”

Nolah. Just kidding. Just trying to make fun of the stall.. hahaha.

KK’s durian price is on par with KK’s food price—fucking expensive on every levels.

RM18 per kilo. tsk tsk tsk.

Breakfast! They usually start serving customers at 2am.. specially for people who just finished clubbing. So when the auntie-auntie come buy breakfast, mostly are leftovers ^^;

And I think these vendors are millionaires… seriously. They can sell one piece of hot dog for RM2. My “economy” noodle usually cost RM8-RM10.

They jack up prices gao gao when you are drunk. You’ll pay RM100 for plain noodles anyway.

They can “restock” the food immediately—I wonder how they wash their wok.

Hmm, they probably don’t. No wonder everything tastes so good. Heh.

“Auntie, lai… I help you take nais nais photo”

Talk to the vendors nicely, and request to take photos. See auntie so nice to pose for me :)

“Wahh auntie, your fishes very pretty oh! like got Photoshop effect oh!”

*She puzzles* :D

The Kuih-muih(s).

Someday, I will buy every kind of kuih and write about it…

WAH you crazy meh?! I got better things to do than writing about kuih-muih. Hahahaha.

Ah wait, there’s one particular kuih I want to blog about some day. A kuih with special name. Something something related to “balls”

Ngek ngek ngek ngek ngek.

Root vegetables, canned condiments, spices and etc etc etc etc etc. See, I told you can you buy almost anything here. Including toothbrush and such… really a supermarket here.

If end of the world is coming, I’ll probably come here and restock goods.

All people eat canned foods, I whipped out these ingredients and start cooking. I’m at different class. Hahahha.

When I take photos of these porks… all the vendors are holding a huge knife. Immediately I think of Stephen Chow (周星馳) movie—國產陵陵漆.

“One of these vendors might be a spy” I thought. I must be a tai lin ngong.

Noun: *tai lin ngong*— crazy dude with huge dick.
