Hello Hanoi Beer! Hello Tiger Beer! Hello USD$0.50 Beer! We Depart to Hanoi! Go! Go! Go! (10th Day Backpacking Indochina)

Leaving Ho Chi Minh

This is our second time leaving Ho Chi Minh, and there is no returning back to this wonderful city in foreseeable time.

We are going Hanoi.

Postcards: Second batch

Waking up in the morning is a pain because where we stayed, the room is very noisy from the clubs downstairs. Shannon slept like pig and my mind is racing with Anthony Robbin’s motivation quote and I must write it down on notebook before going to bed.

Anyway.

Sent out second batch of post cards – mainly to Australia and Malaysia. Those who have submitted their address to me will most likely get it in .. 2-3 weeks time.

If you want to receive post card from me, remember to leave comments below and say why you love reading my blog in 2-3 sentences. I’ll send you postcard from wherever I am currently located.

More food at Benh Street

We decided to explore more food at Benh Market, where the huge market located in middle of the city. I reckon this place is a bit tad touristy and every stall is like “hello sir! come eat! we got delicious food!”

It’s a bit annoying but that’s the fun part of adventuring other’s culture. Smile, kindly say no, and move on.

We also purposely walk up a few stalls (if only that stall got leng lui), strike a few conversation, bargain price a bit and leave. Makes most of them unhappy but heck we are doing this for experience! hahaha.

“How much you want? how much you want?” is often the words we get if we walk away.

Shannon Da Daddy

Shannon’s alter ego is half awake… if finally talk to girls he found attractive. He even get email and photos with her (lady on far right). Kudos to him!

So far I am at fruitless in Vietnam. First looks plays a major part in pickup so I need to get rid of some extra weighs before any lady gets interested in me… in my opinion la!

A female friend of mine says it’s not truth and ladies are OK with size like mine (thank you Lisa, and happy birthday!).

Hmm hmm I am quite famous among ladies one you know hahhahahhaa (perasan).

Flight to Hanoi

We arrived airport 3 hours before departure.. because Shannon looked at the wrong time, he looked at Malaysia time!

Vietnam is +9 GST; Malaysia +8 GST; Australia +6 GST, for the uninitiated

I wasn’t wearing any watch this day so he is in charge of schedule. Funnily, I didn’t charge my laptop the night before so I am left with a iPad that’s almost battery dead at the airport.

So we spend most of our time looking at Vietnamese girls. Ha! punya best!

Discover Hanoi – my thoughts

Here’s a short list of what I’ve discovered in Hanoi so far, in point form.

  • More cars and high ways
  • Pretty ladies 10000% every where, all look like SNSD (I don’t joke about these matter)
  • Guys look better here too (thus, gay-friendly bar available here, and I read about scams for gays here haha)
  • Weather is hot. It’s hot even when it rains
  • Tourist every where
  • No bald guys (every guys have healthy hair! damn)
  • Food more expensive; also not much choice like Ho Chi Minh (Saigon)
  • Hotels are every where in Old district, but limited rooms

No place to stay!

From Ho Chi Minh today morning:

Taxi > Airplane > Local Bus > Walk to hotel.

Took us more than 45 minutes walking around carrying our backpacks. There are drivers who offer to bring us to airport for 50,000dong (RM7.50) for a walking distance journey. Luckily I read from guide books that these driver often overcharge by big margin.

We said no to the driver.

"OK OK! 20,000dong!”

We said no. He wasn’t too happy.

We tried to save RM3 because we have our pride. #Uisehman.

Don’t want to let the drivers to play with our balls and do anything they want us to do. Often, they will send the tourist to a different hotel (with similar name) and get commission from the hotel so that’s why we insist we find our own transport. We choose to walk because we have balls of steels.

After reaching hotel – the hotel guys says “yes we got your booking but our room is full”.

What the fuck man.

“We ask taxi and bring you to another hotel, ok?” while pointing at a map that’s far from our original location. We know we have to pay higher fees and more taxi fares too, so once again we say the words of balls of steelsNO

P1040238

Pick up our back pack and go hunt for hotel. Hotels are every where, it’s more about the price > availability. We found one after asking 3-4 hotels.

Check in for $16 per night. We head out to hunt for food.

We found something better than street food

The restaurant we found seems caters for tourists. While we are looking at the menu outside, some customers (tourists too) were having smoking break. They said they’ve been here for one week and they came back every day. It’s THAT good.

Price are double from normally what we eat.

Well, the place looks nice, and it’s A/C… service seems good too. Plus this restaurant was featured in Lonely Planet guide. We step in Westerner’s restaurant for the first time in our backpack trip.

For the uninitiated, we always hunt for cheap food at road side. That’s where all the fun lies, right?

Anyhooo.

There’s one bigggggggg fuckingggggggg hugeeeeeeee sign that caught our attention…

P1040256

Tiger beer for RM1.50

Yes, 10,000 dong (RM1.50) per bottle of Tiger Beer…

“FUCK THIS I AM GOING TO DIE FOR THEIR CHEAP BEER!”

P1040252

AAAAAAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

AAAAAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

(too excited!)

We ordered our first Hanoi beer for 22,000 dong (RM3.30). The the rest of the night is TIGER BEER.

P1040261

Order some nice food too, and we are dine like a king.

Total damage done: 443,000dong (RM66) in total… it’s RM33 per head and we are so fucking full and satisfied from our meal.

Worth every cent! We both agreed we had a great meal there.

We swear to return next day… because we get 40% discount for next meal. Man these people do know how to take our hearts (cheap beer, 40% next meal, I want to stay here).

Oi why no pretty staff work at your restaurant ha?!

P1040270

Curfew at 11:30pm.. OMG NO PLACE TO STAY

We didn’t know there’s unwritten law that all shops must close at 11:30pm here! There are residents who also stayed at the same street so every shop has to close during curfew.

Even our hotel room was closed –__- ham zoi.

Luckily they opened the gate when we knocked on it. “Ha! special service for you” they say. I am in love with this place.

Where am I now
