I have a new hookah, baby.

October 6th, 2008 Posted in Gadget

I am so happy. Finally get my new hookah. I went all the way to Zone 5 (30 minutes drive on highway) only to get this little thing. We were lost on our way because the information given was incorrect. I blog about that here.

This is my new Hookah.

According to Wikipedia, a Hookah is “a single or multi-stemmed (often glass-based) water pipe for smoking. Originating in India, it has gained popularity, especially in the Arab World. A hookah operates by water filtration and indirect heat. It can be used for smoking herbal fruits.”

And only in ahbing.com, I am going to show you how to setup a hookah and demonstrate a proper way to use it.

First, open your manual book.

Then, follow instructions.

Then, you’re almost done :)

The hookah comes with 3 AAA size battery (only modern ones). Surprisingly, the hookah has rainbow LED on the bottom of the bottle! My hookah can bling bling in dark room man.. so cool.

Then I’ll show you how to lit up the fruity herbs (what a good name), we usually call it tobacco.

I lazy explain so I copy whole paragraph from Wikipedia. “The jar at the bottom of the hookah is filled with water sufficient to submerge a few centimeters of the body tube, which is sealed tightly to it. Tobacco is placed inside the bowl at the top of the hookah and a burning charcoal is placed on top of the tobacco.”

The red thingy on the right photo is the tobacco.

“Some cultures cover the bowl with perforated tin foil to separate the coal and the tobacco, which minimizes inhalation of coal ash with the smoke.”

If you don’t understand, look at the photo itself ;)

Lit the charcoal with fire. I use lighter to demonstrate only. Usually I use cooking stove to burn the charcoal. One charcoal usually last 20-30 minutes. Then start smoking loh. We call it “TARIK”. The picture below will explain how a hookah works.

“When one inhales via the hose, air is pulled through the coal and into the bowl. The air, hot from the charcoal, roasts the tobacco, producing smoke. This smoke passes down through the body tube, which extends into the water in the jar. It bubbles up through the water and fills the top part of the jar, to which the hose is attached. When a smoker inhales from the hose, smoke passes into the lungs, and the change in pressure in the jar pulls more air through the charcoal, continuing the process.”

Besides that, there are many flavours to choose from. I bought Jasmine flavoured tobacco, grape flavoured tobacco, mixed fruits flavoured tobacco and … tobacco flavoured tobacco. I have no idea how it taste like, haven’t try.

I do not know whether shisha tobacco has addictive substances or not, but so far I am not addicted. I just like to play with the smoke. (hahaha sounds like excuse, its not!) It’s fun to play shisha together with friends while have a few glass. Plus, it only has 0.5% of nicotine and 0% tar.

edit: after reading wikipedia, long term hookah causes addiction o.O

After few rounds of practise, I know how to make proper smoke circles. Nyahahahah can impress more chicks >=D

P/S: Can this thing smoke weed? If yes, how? I am curious. Please leave comment. I pay you. I have a samseng friend from Sarawak interested to know. (YES I AM TALKING TO YOU)
