Why I Am Quitting Facebook (13 Reasons to Quit Facebook)

This is not my first attempt on quitting Facebook.

Three months ago, I gave myself a 30-days challenge—the challenge is to stop login Facebook for a month. And I succeed quitting Facebook without hiccups or withdrawal symptoms. I was surprised.

Then, I join back Facebook to catch up all the updates and upload all the pending photos (I am usually the cameraman, you see—so I am responsible for sharing the photos).

And now, I return to my old habit again. I usually type “fa…” in the browser and it automatically points to “http://www.facebook.com”. Spend a few minutes korek for updates, see anyone upload new photos, poke here poke there. No new updates? close browser.

(10 minutes later)

Open browser, type “fa…” and points to “http://www.facebook.com”. Rinse and repeat.

This is so pointless.

And this time, I decide to quit Facebook permanently. And here are my reasons why.

Social circle is not really expanding
I have almost 800 friends on my contact list. But I am not keeping in touch with all of them. I am only keeping in touch with 10-20 friends. The rest are inactive.

My contact list is still expanding, however the real social circle remains the same. Do you send them personal messages? I bet you did not even contact 10% of your list.

Privacy issues

Distractions
Internet is full of distractions, and I do not need another source to diverse my attention.

Life goes on with/without Facebook
My life won’t turn upside down if I quit Facebook. I might get to know more real friends by socializing. Where is the good old yam cha session?

Can you meet new friends in Facebook? no you don’t. Get out and get to know more friends.

Catching up on useless updates
I login Facebook to check status updates every hour or two. I am often disappointed with no new notification. I am wasting time.

Private photo album sucks!
Photo albums become less interesting when all the hot chicks know how to use use privacy settings. Most tags are boutique stores and products. Business people finally caught up ha…

This annoying application still pops up from time to time.

Excessive updates
I do not need to know what you had for lunch or who backstabbed you. It’s none of my business.

“Zzzzz… I am so tired”

Stop Facebook and go take a rest lah. Sometimes these people really get on my nerves. Only share something if you think it’s useful for others.

Too many people, too much information…
… and most of those information are useless

How many friends do you meet up every week? Or even say, monthly?
In my circle of friends, I usually meet up only 10-15 friends every month, unless there’s huge gathering or similar event.

Less is more
Now I have more time to focus on things that matters.
